Ornithology – birds’ observation

Two international known birds’ observatories: Unška Koliševka/sinking cave & Cerknica lake. Birds in the Notranjska Regional Park are the most observable part of living beings. Beside from the great number of them they are also very loud, gaily coloured and not so small. Cerknica Lake is one of the hot spots in Slovenia, as here can be found more than 250 different species. 100 species are nesting. Among these we can listen to the global endangered kosec in spring.

Cerknica Lake is one of the two nest boxes of endangered species such as a "kozica", "rjavovrati ponirek", "kostanjevka", "raca ličarica", "rdečenogi martinec" and "veliki kurh". In the forests of the park are nesting the rare "triprsti detli", "gozdni jerebi", "kozače" and "koconogi čuki". Ural owl nests in the holes of conifers for which it has been found the highest density in the whole Europe.
