MTB park Notranjska

The Notranjska-Karts region lies in the southern part of Slovenia and it’s placed in the European network of ecologically important areas of nature. Over 70 % of the region is covered by forest and 54 % of the region belongs to the special protection areas, the Natura 2000, which is characterized by a rich and well-preserved nature. Inhabitants of the region guarantee the maintenance of a favorable and sustainable development of intact nature with a traditional mode of management. In the Notranjska-Karst region the locals and visitors are at home with nature and are sharing the crops, which are produced in a nature-friendly and sustainable manner.

Integration of agriculture, tourism and high proportion of preserved nature is the ideal starting point for the development of eco-tourism. Cycling tourism is among the softer forms of tourism and so MTB park Notranjska has occurred. MTB park Notranjska is less typical MTB park, as it is primarily designed for the average/tourist cyclist, that would like to explore the countryside. Cyclists who prefer technically pretentious tracks are advised to join to organized groups under the leadership of local guides, since these tracks (in most cases the footpaths that are less visited by hikers) are not marked on the maps or in nature.

It is also possible to organize technical training of mountain biking under professional guidance.

Tracks

Cycling tracks in MTB park Notranjska are prepared in a way that gives bikers the opportunity to get to know the natural & cultural attractions and are placed primarily on roads and paths without heavy traffic (macadam, cart tracks, meadows, forest tracks). 10 thematic circle tracks are prepared which are located in 5 municipalities, (Postojna, Pivka, Cerknica, Ilirska Bistrica & Loška dolina) which covers more than 500 km. The area of the park extends over 1.381 km2, 217 settlements & 49.014 inhabitants. It is distinctive because of its greenery, as we are speaking of the biggest uninhabited forest area in central Europe. Javorniško - Snežniški masif is a true labyrinth of roads and paths, so a local guide is highly recommended.

Guidebook

Cycling tracks issued in a guidebook are equipped with these data: length, difficulty from 1-10, percentage of forested track, (this tells us what share of the track is in the shadow thematic description of the track, it also tells us of the natural and cultural attractions on the way), graph of altitude movement, map with marked track, pictures, and possibilities of other activities on tracks.
