Notranjska is a true getaway from traffic jams to the lap of unspoilt nature.
Natural attractions worth visiting row one after another. The most prominent natural gallery is defenitely the world renown
Postojna cave, but the world of eternity, where the limestone and water come together, is presented through other lesser known jewels od the carst world. For centuries the drops of water unvisibily dissolve limestone ground also in Pivka, Črna, Otoška cave and numerous other caves. The limestone extratcted with water in crystals – siga, which is coloured from snow wite, brown, to redish shades, forms structures, which with little imagination become objects similar when watching cloud formations. The unerground world is a theater, where the game of time and nature is playing.
But this game is played also on the surface. Another carst phenomenon is Cerknica lake, the biggest periodic lake in Europe. On the filed, which gets filled with spring and autumn rains, but dries up in the summer, allows us to fish, cut grass or even ice-skate in the winter, all in a year time. View on this natural miracle is the most magnificent from the nearby viewpoint Slivnica, where witches gather by the old beliefs. Cerknica is especially interesting in the time of the traditional winter carneval as it attracts visitors from far away. The most forested part of Notranjska is Bloška polica/plateau, the cradle of renowned Bloke skis. Many attend Bloški ski running event in Bloke every year.
